It won’t be long now, and we’ll be enjoying summer in Minnesota once again. You’ve probably already prepared your RV for summer. But did you know you should be preparing your home and vehicles for summer as well? Let’s take a look at preparing your home and vehicles for summer.
Preparing Your Home for Hot Summer Weather
One thing you can do now to prepare your home for summer is to check your air conditioning system. This helps it work a bit better so the A/C uses less energy to cool your home. Make sure you change out the filter regularly.
Check your evaporator and condenser coils and clean out any dirt that might be clogging them. And take a look at the coil fins, which sometimes get pushed out of shape and need to be “combed” back to their original form with a fin comb. If your A/C is a window unit, give the seals a once-over to be sure they’re in good shape.
Speaking of seals, check out the weather stripping on your doors to keep bugs and hot air out of your home. And if you skipped it during spring cleaning, clean out your air ducts to increase your HVAC system’s efficiency.
Preparing Your Vehicle for Summer
Vehicles like cars and pickups need some help preparing for summer too. It’s a good idea to check the tires on your vehicles. Look for any cracks or leaks and check the tire pressure. You may want to check your transmission fluid and windshield washer fluid and top them up if needed. While you’re under the hood, make sure all of your belts and hoses look good and aren’t leaking.
If you have a motorcycle, it could benefit from a bit of summer prep as well. Similar to your vehicle, check fluids, filters, belts and hoses. Make sure the tires are looking good, since all that sitting around in winter storage can mean you need to fill up the tires before summer.
The nice thing is, once it gets warm enough, all this preparation means you can hit the open road on the bike right away!
