Let’s Keep Farmers Safe This Season

Many members of the community are excited about the warmer weather to enjoy the many great things Minnesota has to offer. For the farming neighbors, this time of the year means long hours and traveling with slow moving vehicles. Keeping everyone in our community safe is important to us at the Harmoning Agency. As we enter planting season, let’s keep these safety reminders in mind.

Tips to Keep You Safe This Season

Growing up in agriculture ourselves, we understand the importance of getting the job done in the window of opportunity. No one wants to be planting too late or dealing with poor conditions. However, your safety is important.

Slow down

Take the time to travel safely on roadways. Ensure that you have plenty of room without worrying about vehicles crossing in your way. Slowing down also is in reference to overall safety. Slow down and analyze situations. Make sure you are keeping safety precautions in mind at all times.

Take a break from time to time

An overtired mind and body does not work as well as a well-rested one. Take the time to quit for the night and get rest. Your body and mind will thank you as you are able to think more clearly and make faster, smarter decisions the next day.

Check over your equipment

Have you taken the time to review your equipment? This time looking over your machinery could be the reason you, your loved ones, your neighbor and hired hand stay safe this season. If you aren’t sure, always make sure to bring in a skilled mechanic to take a look before testing the waters in live action.

Make intentions to be safe

We all know there are safety precautions that get thrown into the wind when time feels like it’s down to the wire. Here’s your reminder to not let that happen. If that job requires two people, wait until another is there to assist. If the machinery needs to be fixed to be safe, wait until it’s fixed to proceed. One day, a few days, the delay is worth the potential life saved.

We want you here for all the seasons to come.

Tips to Keep Your Neighbor Safe

We get it. Traveling behind a tractor, combine, sprayer, and the many different other farming equipment can often delay your arrival times. If you can wait for the two red traffic lights in Redwood Falls, you can slow down and be patient behind farm machinery. Here’s some safety reminders to keep your farming neighbor safe this season:

  • Take your time traveling on roadways and leave early to allow for delays
  • Give farming machinery plenty of space while traveling behind them
  • Never pass in a no passing zone
  • Take an extra look at intersections for machinery

Together we can keep our community safe this season. At Hamoning Agency, we thank you for doing your part!
